Moroccan Road Trip 2010
5,200 miles in 17 days. Stuck on a beach, lost in the High Atlas, and navigating sand dunes in the dark with a snapped chassis. The 'tamer' trip that really wasn't.
The Expedition
The 'Tamer' One
Our third rally, pitched by us as 'a gentler outing'. It was nothing of the sort. 17 days, 5,200 miles, and the full Moroccan grand tour with Red.
After the Mongol Rally 2007 and the Saharan Rally 2009, we billed 2010 as a gentle road trip. We would head back to Morocco, but this time take it easy. That plan lasted until we got stuck on a beach. Then lost in the High Atlas. Then somewhere in the dunes at night, navigating with a snapped chassis.
Red, our 1964 Land Rover, carried us the full 5,200 miles through France, Spain, and across the full length of Morocco. We discovered that 'Road Trip' and 'Rally' are much the same thing when you involve a 40+ years old Land Rover, the High Atlas, and a pair of Rusty Rhinos.
