About Mercy Corps
Registered Charity No. SC030289 · www.mercycorps.org.uk
Mercy Corps exists to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. Powered by the belief that a better world is possible, Mercy Corps partners to put bold solutions into action, helping people triumph over adversity and build stronger communities from within.
Why we chose Mercy Corps
The Moroccan Road Trip 2010 was our third charity rally. Having supported Mercy Corps on previous trips, we chose to continue that partnership for our first drive down to Morocco.
In 2010, Mercy Corps was working in more than 40 countries responding to both long-running and sudden crises. Their January earthquake response in Haiti was scaling up as teams worked alongside Haitian communities on shelter, water and livelihoods, while ongoing programmes supported communities in Afghanistan, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and across the Sahel.
The rally
We set off in Red, our 1964 Land Rover, in June 2010, driving south through France and Spain before crossing to Morocco. Over three weeks we made our way down the Atlantic coast past Casablanca and Marrakesh, out to the western Sahara at Sidi Ifni and Plage Blanche, across to Foum-Zguid and Mhamid, and up through the Todra Gorge to the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga before returning via Fez and Chefchaouen. Thanks to 35 generous supporters, we raised £1,100, passing our £1,000 target.
Thank you
To everyone who donated and supported the Moroccan Road Trip 2010: thank you. Every penny went directly to Mercy Corps and their humanitarian work.
